Victoria High School Alumni Association Bylaws Article I. The name of this organization shall be the Victoria High School Alumni Association. Article II. The goals of this organization shall be to provide activities for the alumni of Victoria High School, to promote and sponsor activities and programs that will entice future alumni to become paid members of the association, and to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Victoria High School. Article III. Section 1: The members of this organization shall be limited to graduates of Victoria High School, anyone who has attended Victoria High School, as well as individuals who are eligible to be associate members. Associate members include the following: current and former school board members; all school district employees, spouses of deceased alumni; and members of the holy order. Section 2: Membership year shall be from homecoming to homecoming. Section 3: Membership dues shall be determined by the Board of Directors at the first meeting after homecoming. Dues are payable per person per year. Section 4: Honorary members shall be graduates or non-graduates of fifty years or more. This membership shall be free. Section 5: All board and committee members shall be paid members of the association. Monitoring and compliance of section to be handled at the discretion of the President. Section 6: Graduating seniors shall have one year free membership. Article IV. Section 1: The Board of Directors of this association shall consist of at least nine and no more than fifteen members. Section 2: The election of board positions shall be made from and by the Board of Directors at the first meeting after homecoming. Section 3: In the event of a vacancy of a board position, The Board of Directors shall appoint a replacement. Section 4: To remain a member of The Board of Directors, a member will be allowed to miss no more than three meetings throughout the membership year. Section 5: Any board or committee member found to be negligent in their duty may be removed from their position by a 2/3 vote of the Alumni Board of Directors. Article V. Section 1: The officers of this association shall be president, vice- president, secretary, and treasurer. Section 2: The powers and duties of the president shall be to conduct all meetings. This officer shall oversee or designate duties necessary to carry day-to-day business of the association. Section 3: The power and duties of the vice-president shall be to fulfill the duties of the president in his/her absence and assist the president in the day-to-day activities of the organization. Section 4: The power and duties of the secretary shall be to maintain an accurate set of minutes for all the association meetings. Section 5: The power and duties of the treasurer shall be to maintain accurate financial records, account for all income to the association, and document for and pay liabilities. Section 6: The executive board shall consist of the president, vice- president, secretary, and treasurer. Article VI. Section 1: The membership committee shall be composed of the board of directors and at least three members appointed by the board of directors. The duties of this committee shall be to maintain accurate records of member information which includes adequate data backup and privacy safeguards. Section 2: The newsletter committee shall be composed of the board of directors and at least three members appointed by the board of directors. The duties of this committee shall be to publish a newsletter for the paid members in the spring of the year and to publish a newsletter for all paid and potential members in the fall of the year. Section 3: The scholarship committee shall be composed of up to seven members appointed by the board of directors. The duties of this committee shall be to select scholarship recipients from the applicants received in the spring of each year through the support of the acting advisor or VHS. The number and value of scholarships awarded each year shall be determined by the board of directors. Section 4: The entertainment committee shall be composed of the board of directors and other members appointed by the board of directors. The duties of this committee shall be to plan all entertainment events. Section 5: Special committees shall be appointed by the board of directors or the president and vice-president as deemed necessary. Section 6: A board member shall act as the liaison between a committee and the board of directors if a committee member is not already a board member. Article VII. These bylaws may be amended at any board of director meeting by a majority rule. *Revised January 2021 |
